Stupid post nasal drip.
I'd rather have Damon over Razor. I hate drama, so why is it so amusing?
The BTR boys will be back in a week, yay.
I wanna go to Prague.
Only 9 months until next trip to see the mouse.
I miss being able to play outside in the sun.
I have to go brush my teeth, bye.

Oh, you're such a turd
Oh yeah, a giant turd
And you look like a turd
And you smell like a turd

Random TV stuff

awesome
So last night I was watching Nickelodeon because there was a new iCarly. (don't judge me) But after, a preview for a new show came on called Big Time Rush. It was actually amusing. Or at least I liked it. There was a random reference to Yo Gabba Gabba in it. Well anyway, there was a kid in it, the one who plays Logan, who looks exactly how I picture Billy Kaplan if they ever make a live action movie of Young Avengers. He would be perfect.

And that is my random thought of the week.

"I do not like the cone of shame."

Well, that was interesting...

So another uneventful and disappointing halloween has come and gone. The recent lack of halloween spirit makes me sad. Even the hour and a half of Ghost Hunters live I saw was lame.
Anyway, on to more important news. Josh Gates is in Ceder Grove, New Jersey. (or wherever his hotel is) So now I have to figure out the easiest way to kidnap him. :-P But I would like to meet him. Did you know his picture is in Disney? I took a picture of it. And slightly fangirled, but that's besides the point. Anyway, must send my minions to hunt down Josh.

Anyway, at the game I got three free tickets (and a boombox)to Thursday night's game. Somerset Patriots first playoff game against Newark Bears. Anyone wanna go?

August books

Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi: Abyss by Troy Denning

This is turning into such a great series, although I can’t stand Jag again.  I can’t believe Jaina is going to marry him.  Zekk better some back soon.  So whatever is affecting the Jedi has to do with the Maw, since it’s only affecting the young ones who hid in the Maw during the Yuuzhan Vong Invasion.  Still no idea what exactly is the cause, or how to fix it.  Vestara was the only one who survived attacking Luke.  She lost her Master, Rhea and her best friend, Ahri.  And I liked him.  Can’t wait for Backlash.  We’re going back to Dathomir!

Star Wars: Young Jedi Knights: Lightsabers by Kevin J. Anderson and Rebecca Moesta

Star Wars: Young Jedi Knights: Darkest Knight by Kevin J. Anderson and Rebecca Moesta

Star Wars: Young Jedi Knights: Jedi Under Siege by Kevin J. Anderson and Rebecca Moesta

Ah, memories of the good old days.  This all started when I was trying to remember what color Zekk’s lightsaber was.  Not the red Sith one, but his other one.  Still got a few more books to go before I get to that part.  Re-reading all this I realized how bad some of the dialogue is.  This is supposed to be teenagers, but they sound rather old fashioned.  Man, now I have an ever stranger urge to rewrite this whole series.  And add Kea, of course.  I miss them.

The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi

Never read this before.  Which is odd because I love this author.  And I do love ships.  That one trip across the Atlantic changed Charlotte so much she couldn’t return to the way her life used to be.  It does make me wonder what happened to her afterwards.

Lyra’s Oxford by Phillip Pullman

Cute little companion that takes place after the His Dark Materials trilogy, which I’m going to re-read as soon as I get them back from Jeff.  Because for some reason I can’t remember a lot of what happened.

The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate by Jacqueline Kelly

About a girl growing up at the turn of the century with six brothers.  Man, I want a brother.  It’s how she got to know her grandfather better and discovered her love of the natural world.  I really hope she got to go to the university.  The bit at the end with the snow was really interesting and worked really well.

Bizenghast #6 by M. Alice Legrow

I miss Vincent.  The dress on the cover is amazing.  Which I think is a different version of the dress in chapter two.  I wonder if I could pull that off as a cosplay.  I love it when Edaniel is human, and when Edrear  tries to be.  I totally want an Edaniel backpack.  And where can I get a subscription to Not Edaniel Magazine?  Don’t know what is up with their sisters, but it looks like a big battle is coming.

Ghost Hunt #10 by Shiho Inada, Story by Fuyumi Ono

It is about time!  Did you know Naru had a brother who is dead and whose body may be at the bottom of the lake?  Well, I do now.  So we’re learning more about Naru, everyone is trapped in a weird old school, and it ended with a cliff hanger.  Oh, come on!  That is so not fair.  When does volume 11 come out?

Ouran High School Host Club #1-4 by Bisco Hatori

I blame the Funimation channel.

Just beat the new Professor Layton game.  Woohoo!  Did you know an animated movie about it is coming out in Japan in January?  I hope I can see it somehow.  And I kind of want to cosplay Luke.

Trying to decide what I’m going to be for Halloween.  I’ve narrowed it down to Tinker Bell and a sheet ghost.

So today I found out that BLOOD OATH has been canceled. At first I was very annoyed and disappointed. Until I found out that it wasn't going to be canon. I felt a bit better. Then I read that Zekk's story would still be told, probably as part of the Fate of the Jedi series. That made me feel a lot better.
I have to go get issue two of INVASION because the YJK are in it!
And speaking of the YJK, I'm back to reading the series and randomly inserting Kea into it. It amuses me.

July books

Reincarnation by Suzanne Weyn

Great concept.  The reincarnation of two people from the beginning of time until now.  Although the cover scared me and I didn’t want to read it.  A diagram would be nice.  Of the main characters and who they were in each period.  I could figure it out, that wasn’t hard, and I liked the reoccurring bits, but a chart would be nice.  Maybe I should make one.

The Diamond Secret by Suzanne Weyn

Yay, another story of Anastasia.  And there were bits that reminded me of the movie.

Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of Beauty & the Beast by Robin McKinley

There were bits in here that reminded me of every other Beauty and the Beast story I read.  So I thought maybe this just grouped them all together.  That is until I looked at the copyright.  1978.  It came before everything.  Maybe all the stories took their ideas from here.

Criss Cross by Lynne Rae Perkins

Cute coming of age story, set a few decades ago, although you really can’t tell unless you pay close attention.  I love the parts where they sat in the truck to listen to the radio show.  Wish radio shows still existed.  Might give me a reason to actually listen to it.

All the Lovely Bad Ones by Mary Downing Hahn

I love ghost stories.  It was definitely something I would have read as a kid.  She’s written a few others I think I may read.

City of Glass by Cassandra Clare

So my stack didn’t go down much, but I decided to read it anyway.  Somewhere in the middle it occurred to me that they might not actually be related.  Turned out I was right.  Also I kept thinking of the first scene from the first book when they were all in the club.  It seemed like so long ago, but it really wasn’t.

Airborn by Kenneth Oppel

Skybreaker by Kenneth Oppel

Starclimber by Kenneth Oppel

This may just be my new favorite series.  Especially the last line in Starclimber.  I really hope there will be more.  Maybe about the floating city talked about in Skybreaker.  And maybe Nadira will come back.  I would like to know what happened to her.  And speaking of the floating city, I was reminded of Castle in the Sky.  If they could get it to work I bet it would look like Laputa at its prime, which was never shown.  Is it weird I want to read it all over?  But I lent Dan the first book, so I can’t.  And this series has caused my interest in steampunk to grow.

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle #22

Still utterly confused, but I’m beginning to make sense of it.  Woohoo, battle of the Syaorans!

Blood+ Adagio Vol. 1

Anastasia was really Diva, and that’s how she lived!  It all makes perfect sense now.

Fruits Basket #23

It’s all over, (sad awww), but it had a happy ending, (sweet awww).  Although all the characters started to look alike some of them confused me.  I just like to think everyone was happy though.  But no one turns into a cute animal anymore (disappointed aww).

Man, now I have to find a place to put all these books.  New Star Wars book in a few weeks, yes!

Okay, off to watch Meet Me in St. Louis.

All the books I read in June

book

Wings by Aprilynne Pike

Very interesting take on fairies, but this is a typical YA fantasy, with a love triangle.  I’m starting to get sick of things like that.  Most likely going to have a sequel.

Ghostgirl: Homecoming by Tonya Hurley

Still cheesy, but I can’t help my strange fascination of all things ghostly.

City of Bones and City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare

Really cool trilogy, so far.  I haven’t gotten to the last one yet, but I kind of got sucked in to it.  Sure, there are vampires, and werewolves and demons, but they work here.  Especially since the main characters are demon hunters.  And there was totally a Star Wars moment when Clary kissed Jace.  (Wait, they’re what?)  As soon as I cut down my pile a bit more, I’ll get the third one.

Rowan Hood: Outlaw Girl of Sherwood Forest by Nancy Springer

Some book I picked up at a book sale.  Interesting, but not all that great.  Should have been longer.  It was very cramped.

Beauty Sleep by Cameron Dokey

Another one of those fairy tale books, this time Sleeping Beauty.  Although she never actually fell asleep, just disappeared into an enchanted forest for many years.  And the ending was just plain weird.

Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi: Omen by Christie Golden

Not as awesome as the first, but totally cool all the same.  But Jaina, how could you?  What about Zekk?  Okay, so I said Jag may be growing on me, but that doesn’t mean you should go and marry him!  Yeah, I was yelling at the book.  I really like learning about all the other Force users in the galaxy.  And I think the crazy Jedi disease has something to do with the Maw.

Star Wars Young Jedi Knights: The Lost Ones by Kevin J. Anderson and Rebecca Moesta

Due to my increasing disappointment over the lack of Blood Oath, (which I now know the reasons behind) I’ve decided to re-read YJK, the books that introduced Zekk.  I started with the third one because he wasn’t in the first two.

Meet Rebecca

Rebecca and Ana

Candlelight for Rebecca

Rebecca and the Movies

Rebecca to the Rescue

Changes for Rebecca by Jacqueline Dembar Greene

Newest American Girl.  I grew up on them and still love them.  Too bad the short stories are all out of print now.  Rebecca was interesting.  I loved the part about the silent movies.  And they all went to Coney Island.

Danger at the Zoo: A Kit Mystery by Kathleen Ernst

I think Kit’s my second favorite AG, after Felicity.  I sort of wish we met the trapeze kids, but I guess it wasn’t important to the plot.  Although I totally figured out the mystery pretty early.

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle #21 by Clamp

Still utterly confused.  But I love it.  Poor Fai.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya #3 Gaku Tsugano, Nagaru Tanigawa and Noizi Ito

Yay baseball!  Cute clothes shopping and the Tanabata festival.  Wait, so Kyon was the one who painted the weird markings on the field?  I love time travel.

Young Avengers: Sidekicks and Young Avengers: Family Matters by Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung

Dude, I <3 Wiccan.  Yes, I had to.  And Hulkling.  Or Billy and Teddy, if that’s what you want to call them.  Tommy’s cool too.  I hope they bring this series back soon.

Changed positions at work so now my hours are different.  But the days seem to go faster.
Must go clean my room now.

Canoodle!

I must share a highly amusing story. So I was reading a book (something new!), and the word canoodle showed up. And I giggled because that's what that word makes me do. Then I was reminded of Realm of the Gods where I first read that word. And I think it was in one of the Beka Cooper books. Anyway, a few nights later, The Music Man was on tv. The new one with Matthew Broderick, not the one from '62. Guess what word Marcellus says right before the song "The Sadder-But-Wiser Girl For Me"? Canoodling! I giggled again. The next day I Sci-Fi had a Doctor Who marathon. And there it was again, canoodle! Last night I decided to watch the original Music Man. Yep, it was in that one too. Needless to say, I've made it my word of the month.
Now I want a shirt that says that.

Whee, I found them!

So I decided I totally want to cosplay Yuffie from KH2/FF:AC.

Because she is awesome and I need another Yuffie costume to go with my KH1 one.  And oh yeah, I am Yuffie.  So I figured the shoes would be the hard part.  but look what I found!!

So I bought them.  They are so cool!
Now I need awesome Yuffie weapon.  And some materia!  And a Vinnie, and maybe a Squall to go with him.
Maybe after this I'll do Dirge of Cerberus Yuffie.

Distant Waves by Suzanne Weyn

Really liked this one. There were ghosts (sort of), the Titanic, Tesla, Doyle, Houdini, romance, all rolled into one book. Although the end was kind of crazy, but I liked it.

Evernight by Claudia Gray

I’m kind of sick of vampires. Totally wasn’t expecting Bianca to be a vampire though. Interesting. Most likely will read the next one.

Fragile Eternity by Melissa Marr

Why can’t I remember what happened in this book? I feel like it was kind of boring.

Vampire Kisses 6: Royal Blood by Ellen Schreiber

I figured out the plot of this one within the first few chapters. I can’t help reading it though. I started the series so I have to see it through to the end.

Being Nikki by Meg Cabot

Randomly read the first one at work when it came out, thinking, what a stupid concept. Well, when this one came out I figured I’d just read it at work. Until I got hooked and realized there was a lot more to this concept. Poor Em.

Dream Factory by Brad Barkley and Heather Hepler

Why in my right mind would I read a book with a hot pink cover? Oh yeah, because it takes place in Disney. I love Disney. Although some of the facts in the book were wrong, but nothing that bugged me too much.

The Thirteenth Child by Patricia C. Wrede

Really cute. Choppy, could have been longer, but it is a children’s book. And it had twins, a boy and a girl.

The Amaranth Enchantment by Julie Berry

I have a soft spot for fairy tales. And goats named dog. A twins separated when they were little.

The following four are from the “Once Upon a Time” series.

Before Midnight by Cameron Dokey

I think I liked this one best so far. It’s Cinderella. And now that I think about it, had a bit in common with The Amaranth Enchantment, especially the twin princes.

Belle by Cameron Dokey

The Beauty and the Beast one. Something I’ve noticed is that they always seem to fall in love rather fast. I don’t get it.

Wild Orchid by Cameron Dokey

This one’s about Mulan. No Mushu though. :p Another thing I noticed is that many of them have a best friend who’s a boy. And they never end up with him.

Midnight Pearls by Debbie Viguie

The Little Mermaid. So she ends up marrying the merfolk prince. Really weird ending.

New X-Men: Childhood’s End Vol. 1

New X-Men: Childhood’s End Vol. 2

New X-Men: Childhood’s End Vol. 3

New X-Men: Childhood’s End Vol. 4

New X-Men: Childhood’s End Vol. 5

Must they keep killing off Mutants? It’s bad enough that most mutants lost their power thanks to the Scarlet Witch. Hehe, Pixie made Wolvie seen unicorns.

Star Wars: Last of the Jedi #7: Secret Weapon by Jude Watson

Wonder is Obi-Wan is gonna show up again? Only have a few more books left in this series. Should finish it.

The Amazing Days of Abby Hayes #19: All That Glitters Isn’t Gold by Anne Maer

Cell phones, seriously? Is there nothing else to write about?

Oh yeah, when I was bored at work I read Chibi Vampire #4, the Runaways/Young Avengers Civil War crossover and the Runaways/Young Avengers Secret Invasion crossover. I’m starting to like these Young Avengers.

And now for some other random stuff, like I want a brownie batter blizzard.

A repercussion from when my computer died: all the pages I wrote with my fly pen are no longer in my computer. At least I still have the written pages. Now I’ll have to type all those pages up. Gee, great.

I could have sworn I bought white bias tape. Where is it? Oh well, I bought more. You can never have enough bias tape.

So since it’s almost summer, that means Con season is upon us. Now at one point I think I was going to AN and Otakon, then I wasn’t going to any. Well, now it looks like I’m going to Otakon. If they let me off two weekends in a row. And I finally figured out what cosplay. Back by popular demand (Sean in other words): Yuffie, the greatest female ninja ever. I’m also bringing Toph, the greatest earthbender ever. And I’m working on Molly, the greatest Star-racer pilot ever. There might be a theme going on here. There’s a lot of little bits to this costume. Some I’ve got to figured out how I’m going to do them.

Can someone tell me why the name Caleb sounds so familiar?

I keep forgetting things I want to do.  It's not fun.

All the books I read in April

  • May. 5th, 2009 at 11:32 PM
book
First thing's first. SWEEP!! Red Sox have now beaten the Yankees in all five games they've played. Sweet.
Now on to books...

Miki Falls 2: Summer by Mark Crilley

Still an interesting concept.  But I don’t really know where it’s going.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya by Nagaru Tanigawa

The novel version is just as amusing as the rest of it.

The Fetch by Laura Whitcomb

Really interesting idea.  It’s a fantasy take on what happened to the Romanovs, specifically what happened to Anastasia and Alexis.  Fetches are the beings who usher us into heaven.  There were a lot of religious aspects to it.  But it felt like I was reading it though a veil, like I was being pulled through a crowd too fast to see anything specific around me.  It had a rather dream-like state to it.  The cover said it was a supernatural romance, but there was no real romance stuff until almost the last few chapters.  The beginning hooked me and I was really curious, but it didn’t really pan out into anything more than a wild goose chase.  Somewhat disappointing.

The New Mutants Classic Vol. 4 by Chris Claremont

More X-men fun.

So I did it, I decided to read the rest of the Tortall Saga.  And I finished all 16 books and one short story in a month and a half.  Go me!

Beka Cooper book 2: Bloodhound by Tamora Pierce

It took two and a half years, but I finally got to read this book.  Sooo good.  I did not expect to like Dale Rowan very much, but I couldn’t help it, he was too likeable.  Even his end with Beka, I still couldn’t hate him.  I missed Pounce, since he had to go deal with some constellation issues.  I want a little black cat who can talk to me.  One thing I’m very curious about, that wasn’t explained:  What did Rosto do to welcome home Beka?  ;)  And we know where the Dancing Dove first came from.  Near the end I was half expecting Rosto and some of his Rogues to come to Port Cayann to help Beka.  Didn’t happen though.  Anyway, I rally hope I don’t have to wait another two years for the last one.

The Immortals Quartet:  by Tamora Pierce

Wild Magic

This was actually the first Tammy book I ever read.  Which spoiled bits of the Lioness quartet for me, but it’s okay now.  I wonder what ever happened to Miri?  It’s never said in any other books.  Has one of my favorite lines ever:  “Don’t tell me.  You expected someone bigger.”  Alanna said that.

Wolf Speaker

Eventually we are gonna learn more about Maura of Dunlath.

Emperor Mage

I like it when gods meddle.  And the Graveyard Hag is a good one.  This book has dinosaurs!  Sure, they’re just skeletons, but they’re fun.

In the Realms of the Gods

Yay Darkings, yay Gainel, yay Daine and Numair!  Even thought I totally did not see that coming the first time I read it, for some reason.  But it makes perfect sense when you go back to it.  I will write that fanic, I will!

“Elder Brother” by Tamora Pierce

Back in Wolf Speaker, Numair turned Tristan into a tree, causing a tree somewhere in the world to turn into a human.  And this is a short story of what happened to that tree, and the girl he meets along the way.  I wonder if they ever made it to Tortall.

The Protector of the Small Quartet: by Tamora Pierce

First Test

For awhile, Kel was never my favorite.  But re-reading, she is growing on me even more.  Although Neal is awesome, and will always be.

Page

Yay, Kel gets to continue her training.  And Joren’s a jerk.

Squire

Best part of this book?  Raoul coming out of his room in a loincloth followed by Buri in just a blanket.  Oh yeah, and then there’s that conversation between Kel and Cleon about a haystack.  That brings back some memories.  I wonder whatever happened to the fansite that had that song about Cleon.  I can still remember it.  Oh yeah, Neal’s cousin is cool.  And I won’t talk about the missing year.

Lady Knight

I kinda want to know what else happens to Kel in the future, after this book.  And that seer girl.  She seemed really interesting.  And Neal’s daughter, hehehe.  Basically, I want more of Kel’s story.

Trickster’s Choice by Tamora Pierce

I think it’s official, Aly is my favorite Tortall heroine.  Oh, Nawat and your preening, you amuse me so.  And Kyprioth is the most amusing god of them all.  I have a soft spot for the trickster god.  I would have loved to see the whole fight between Alanna and Kel.  Aly’s “letters” from home were a really cool idea.  Especially since there are so many new charaters, it was nice to get back to some old ones.

Trickster’s Queen by Tamora Pierce

The Darkings are back!  And is it possible for Aly to keep getting cooler?  Because she does.  I don’t know what else to write!

Is it sad I want to read them again?  I actually went back to read a passage in one of Alanna’s books.  But I think I’ll wait until Mastiff comes out before I reread everything again.

In other news, I discovered the new diabetes in a cup.  And I must never drink it again.  (yeah right)  And Jacob Black was in my store last night!   Um, guess that's it for now.  I can't remember what else, if anything, I wanted to write.

Ugh, I need help, if anyone out there is willing. So that fanfic I talked about yesterday? Well, I just found the paper I started it on years ago, but now I don't know which version of the story to use. Right now I guess I technically have three. So if anyone wants to help me out, I can explain it better to you.

Found a bunch of new icons, so I needed a reason to use one. If anyone can find, and/or make me some awesome Tortall quote icons, I will love you forever. If anyone knows what I'm talking about.

Yay, Red Sox beat the Yankees!!

Anywho, since I'm on a Tortall saga kick, I drew pretty (somewhat) pictures.
Heroines and chibi Numair )

Um, I think there was something else I wanted to share, but now I can't remember. Oh well, only 4 books to go, then I can force myself to work on that fanfic I've been putting off for a few years.
